Le colonne sonore di Final Fantasy sono particolarmente emozionanti e tutto questo grazie al genio di Nobuo Uematsu che ogni volta riesce a valorizzare ogni episodio con le sue coinvolgenti melodie. Sinceramente: cosa sarebbe Final Fantasy senza la sua colonna sonora?
Nel caso di Final Fantasy VIII, a mio parere è una soundtrack tra le migliori mai riuscite di tutta la saga. Come scordarsi il suggestivo brano iniziale "Liberi Fatali", un misto di tensione e mistero? Come dimenticare la dolcissima Eyes on Me, ripetuta più volte nell'intero videogioco sia sotto forma di melodia sia cantata dalla stupenda voce di Faye Wong? Per non parlare delle altre... dal tenero tema "Ami" a quello più angosciante presente durante la Compressione Temporale... dal divertente brano suonato a Fisherman's Horizon dalla "banda di Selphie" a quello più tenebroso della marcia in onore della strega Edea nel primo disco...

L'uscita della soundtrack originale è stata accompagnata anche dal singolo del tema cantato del gioco: Eyes on Me. La cantante del brano è la cinese Faye Wong, molto famosa nel paese del Sol Levante. Il singolo contiene tre brani: Eyes on Me, la sua versione strumentale e Red Bean, che non ha niente a che vedere con FFVIII, ma è soltanto una canzone di Faye Wong.
